Tebow will get a five-year contract worth $11.25 million, according to two NFL sources. The money is less than the $11.8 million total value Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant got as the No. 24 overall pick. Tebow's guarantee will be $8.7 million, higher than the $8.3 million guarantee Bryant received. The difference is due to Tebow getting a quarterback premium, bumping him a few more guaranteed dollars higher than Bryant. Tebow's contract has a max value of $11.25 million, but that includes difficult-to-reach incentives per the report from the Denver Post.
So, I guess the Universe is still in place. Seriously, folks are not arguing on the overall contract, but the guaranteed money is $0.4 millions higher than Dez! Well, I have to admit, at least Tim can speak in complete sentences and be understood by most of the fans that are going to support him (that is worth more in my book and more in the bank to the Broncos . . . seriously!!). I think if Tim starts sooner than expected and performs at a high level, he will be rewarded and they do not have to deal with the "VJ, McNiell or Johnson (crybaby, whining man-child)" drama other teams have faced this season. Smart move by both sides to get the wording right in the contract without breaking the bank!!
Personally, I believe that Tim Tebow's potential is great and he will do well in the NFL. However, the pure stupidity of commentators on the "other Blog" leave me speechless and just . . simply pissed off. They have no common sense and type the same way they talk - out their "other hole." The more I read and hear, the more I just hope TT brings heavy wood but nothing . . . I mean nothing will ever satisfy these type of folks, so I simply will say this:
"Fair Winds and Following Seas . . . if you can figure out which way to point your boat to sail out of the port!!" Morons!!
DUN DUN DUN!!! And the Real AFC West Fans Blog get's it's first hot button issue.
ReplyDeleteThe $11.25M is the base contract, but the total value is reported at $33M, according to Adam Schefter. If that number is true, then the contract is a substantial pay raise over what the #25 pick got last year. That's really not all that surprising though, as Tebow will get the standard QB bonus and also because rookie contracts get bigger every year. It's quite an investment though.
Now for the player himself. I still believe that Tebow would have been there for Denver in the 2nd rd. I think the Broncos were too quick to bite on rumors that other teams (Buffalo) were going to move early. There has been a trend to start 1st rd QBs early. Stafford, Sanchez, and Freeman from 2009. Ryan and Flacco from 2008. So there is naturally going to be that general expectation from around the league and from the fans.
Of course that doesn't mean it's going to happen (and I don't think it should). My biggest question about the draft is: Why sign Brady Quinn and then draft Tebow in the 1st rd? If they had gotten him in the 2nd or 3rd (if he'd fallen to them there), then I say he's a solid pick up.
He has a great natural talent and is a hard worker. But his mechanics do have a ways to go. Every rookie QB has adjustments to make, but Tebow has a few more.
Overall, I think that if the Broncos really wanted to get a QB of the future, they would have been wiser to grab a guy like Tony Pike or Dan Lefevre. Let Orton and Quinn battle for the current job and bring one of them along to start in year 3.
But, then again, nobody pays me millions of dollars to make those kinds of decisions.
citadelchief05,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your comment and thoughts. I just believe that the final value of the contract is just that . . . if TT has to show that he can do what Denver believes he can do. I am just getting sick and tired of folks getting worked up over something that they have no control over. TT is has to meet the requirements not us so why we are we getting working up over something we have no control over????
The final upper end of the contract is high but it is something based on achievement, not just "show up and do your job!"
I understand your great frustration over Tebow but simply remember, everyone is not the media! Take a deep breath and continue to live because that is what we all do . . if we wake up in the the morning . . . LOL!!
citadelchief05... I 100% agree with you. Why get Brady Quinn then a month after grab Tebow in the first round? My only explanation is McD is really high on him, and good for McD to go get the player he wants. How TT turns out is how McD's job will turn out as well. I do think they should have waited for him on the 2nd round and if they didn't get him then that should have been fine because they have bigger needs in other positions. IMO they missed out on coming out of the draft as a more complete team. All of what I said goes into muck if TT does become a pro bowler, but I dont see him getting even into Joe Flacco's level.
ReplyDeleteAnd no I'm not a Tebow hater, I'm actually Filipino-American and I respect him greatly for all the things him and his family done for the people of the Philippines. It's just my football perspective on how the broncos draft went.
TEBOW WILL HAVE DENVER ON HIS SHOULDERS BY MID SEASON ! FEEL BAD FOR ORTON (IVE ALWAYS WANTED HIM TO SUCCEED ) MAYBE THEY CAN TALK HIM INTO STAYING ON ! WHAT ABOUT QUINN !??? ( WHAT ABOUT BOB !!??)
ReplyDeleteNeither Orton or Quinn can afford to stay in Denver. If and when Tebow becomes the starter, both players will have to move on quickly if they want any shot at being a starting QB in the NFL. I can see one of them going to Minnesota (pending the Farve retirement) and the other going to Seattle or Tennessee.
