Most Valuable Player - Philip Rivers. Clearly the leader of the Chargers and if he leads the team to a top 2 seed without the holdouts, he could be the league's MVP as well. Runner up: J. Charles
Offensive Player of the Year - Jamaal Charles. Easily the most explosive skill player in the division. Runner up: P. Rivers.
Defensive Player of the Year - Richard Seymour. If the Raiders do go 8-8 or more it would largely have to do with improved play of the D-line and Seymour is the anchor of that. Runner up: N. Asomugha.
Offensive Rookie of the Year - Ryan Mathews. Simply the most touches a rookie will get out of every rookie in the AFC West. Runner up: E. Decker.
Defensive Rookie of the Year - Rolando McClain. This is an award dominated by LBs. Runner up: E. Berry.
Coach of the Year - Norv Turner. If the division does improve you can argue that Haley or Cable should be coach of the year, but if that holds true and the AFC West is no longer a cakewalk then Norv deserves the award if the Chargers win the division. Runner up: T. Haley.

ReplyDeleteWell, Rivers is a pretty safe choice (he is on one of my FFL teams so he better play this year LOL) but I can not think of anyone else at this time.
On the Coach, I think that Josh McD just might pull off a major effort this year. Everyone is so pulling for him to fail, so he just might let the reins loose and Kyle will drive the Broncs to a possible fight for a wild card spot this year. I see Denver with a chip on their shoulder and lots to prove, so it is very possible they might pull off a big upset this year. Call it a "us against the world" feeling I have at this time.
I personally think Berry will be such a big difference for KC that he will be in the running not just for the AFCW but the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. I believe that Berry will have a impact year for KC and that will help them improve so the AFCW will be the "Wild, Wild West" this year, for sure.
Thanks for the projections and we are just 3 days away from real football!!
Hmmmmm...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rivers as the MVP of the division and I would argue that he could be the offensive player of the year too in the AFC West.
But predictions are good and fun but for some reason I like to stay away from them.
My opinion though, is that the division will improve overall. Mathews will get a lot of touches and could push for that NFL OROY award. I also believe that Eric Berry will provide a bigger impact in KC than Rolando McClain will in Oakland... BUT, I do believe that McClain will develop into a star once he gets a season under his belt. Berry was and is the most NFL ready player to come out of this year's draft.
As for Tebow... I think that Bill Williamson would give him the nod at all those AFC West awards... LOL
My two cents... not worth much! ;-)
vierasunshine..... definitely if the Broncos go 9-7 and up, Josh McD should deservingly receive coach of the year. As for Eric Berry, I do think he'll have a whole lot more impact than McClain, but in the end playing LB trumps the S spot.
ReplyDeletedinoartist . . . it seems that everyone on the ESPN AFC West blog just dislikes Bill Williamson. What is the reason, may I ask?
ReplyDeleteIt's because most of his posts really have no substance at all. Not only that, the same subject is repeated over and over again. Neither does he put a good insight on things and for updates they are usually a couple hours late. Not only that sometimes we only get 3-5 postings in one day. And these postings contain 3-5 sentences as well. An easy way to see how bad Bill is is to compare him to the other bloggers. Check out Kevin Seifert of NFC North or Tim Graham of AFC East. Those guys know how to blog about the division and they participate on the comment boards as well.
ReplyDeletejefffree- called it ! bw just is bland and half measure like effort ! your pick look on the money !
